Sneeze, wheeze, cough and cry.
Allergy symptoms are caused by the immune system releasing histamines from mast cells and basophils. These chemicals are released in an effort to drive out the offending substance from the body. In people, the histamine-releasing cells are mostly in the respiratory tract and mucus membranes of the eyes, nose and sinuses. Histamines also increase permeability of the blood vessels to help white blood cells enter the tissues. The use of herbs work two ways, they help to lower histamine levels by either decreasing their production or by helping to speed up their elimination. Herbs such as Eyebright, Nettle leaf, and Oregon grape root help lower the histamine level. Histamines are processed and eliminated by the liver so using herbs that stimulate and support liver function can decrease the intensity and duration of the allergy symptoms. These are herbs like Oregon Grape root for the Berberine it contains, Milk Thistle, Burdock root, and Dandelion root. For an occasional allergy issue, I would just use the Allergy Alleviation tincture formula. If it is a longer issue like all spring, I would use the Liver Cleanse and Support tincture along with the Allergy Alleviation formula. Pregnant or nursing women should not use either of these. If pregnant or breast feeding try the Children’s Allergy Glycerite. All herbs in this formula are safe for pregnancy and the developing baby. Babies 1 year and up can safely use the Children’s glycerite. It uses the following herbs, Eyebright, Lemon Balm, Mullein, Spearmint, Astragalus and Nettle.
Interesting fact, dogs get allergies too. They have their histamine releasing cells mostly in their paws, ears and skin. Shaking their head, biting paws and itchy skin can be a sign they have allergies. Using the Allergy Alleviation is sometimes helpful to dogs as well.
If an allergy is severe, prescriptions may be necessary to use as well.
Feel free to email me with questions. I custom make formulas as well if there is an herb that is in a formula that you can’t use, are on prescriptions or need something for an issue that is not mentioned on this site.
I am not a physician and do not diagnose or treat diseases. Consultation is recommended if you are using prescription medications as some herbs interact with them. Consult your Doctor before ingesting any herbal product. All information here is for educational purposes only.
